Story
A year and a half ago we set ourselves the physical challenge to climb Kilimanjaro - the highest mountain in Africa. We have been training ever since, with four other team members. We have all grown stronger in mind, soul and as a team. This allows us to take on such a physically demanding challenge. The mountain is 5,895m high and the climb itself is six days and nights. All being well we will summit in the early hours of the 30th of October.
Three years ago this would have been inconceivable as one member of our team spent a long period of time in both Derriford and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore due to disability with something called type 2 hyper mobility (in short...dislocated limbs!). RNOH Stanmore are considered to be amongst the world leaders with their expertise, knowledge and specialist care that they can offer their patients.
For us, our local physios, doctors and especially the RNOH in Stanmore have all helped over a period of time to overcome this disabling condition, enabling a complete recovery which has then allowed us to face up to this challenge.
By raising funds to support the RHOH Stanmore for the incredible work that they do there, we are in a small way thanking them for the help that they offered us. Supporting us, in turn will support others facing similar difficulties.
We have funded the whole trip ourselves (thanks the grown-ups!!) so every single penny we raise goes to the hospital. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
