Fundraising for Mercy Corps
Story
Thankfully the marathon is over but you can still donate!! Please help me reach my fundraising target. All donations will go directly to a very worthwhile cause:
As Mercy Corps Scotland's UNHCR Programme Manager, I recently visited a family that live in the middle of nowhere in the mountainous border region between Kosovo and Serbia. There are 8 members of the family (both parents and six kids). All the children are handicapped - one boy is in a wheelchair; two daughters are deaf and dumb; and the other three have severe physical handicaps. All six children have the same genetic disorder - they only have two or three digits on each hand. They have a very basic house with no bathroom or running water. There is hardly any furniture (no chairs and only two beds). They struggle for a regular food supply and currently survive by handouts from the local villagers. They have one set of clothes each. They have no capacity to work or earn money. As you may imagine there is no real social service in Kosovo that could care for them. So here is the plan! To raise some cash to:
1. Connect a nearby water supply
2. Install a bathroom
3. Provide basic household furniture
4. Provide clothes and shoes
5. Provide chickens (for eggs) and goats (for milk)
6. Maintain a small fund to provide a regular food supply
That's quite a tall order but with a few grand we can really make a difference. So please be as generous as you can! Thanks a lot! Please also inform any wealthy and generous family or friends who wish to make a contribution to a project in Kosovo.
