My journey through this illness has been rocky, but i have met some of the most wonderful people along the way and have found how incredible my family and friends are.

I was diagnosed in may 2006, age 47, with breast cancer. My GP, surgeon, oncologist and breast care team were fantastic throughout, but it was when I was asked if I would like to be referred to St Richards Hospice that I first met Sophie Edmunds, a clinical nurse specialist for St Richards, that I felt uplifted and comforted. However after surgery and 8 months of chemo, the cancer returned, and more surgery and radiotherapy followed. During this time I have had few periods of remission and by march 2008, I was given a terminal diagnosis when the cancer spread to my lungs.

There is no doubt in my mind, that the calm atmosphere of St Richards and the professionalism and positive attitude of the staff helped me through this journey, and at times giving me the strength to support my own family. This was such a turning point as we have all been supported mentally, physically and emotionally. The hospice offered a support group at which I have made some wonderful friends allowing us to share experiences and support each other. In addition the Hospice offer support for all the family which will be ongoing even after my death.

The surroundings at St. Richards are calm and comfortable, and I have received nothing but kindness and practical care. Without the team at St Richards, my time would have been so much harder, with them it has been enriched. These are truly special people in a  wonderful place and I feel happy to place myself in their hands. My family and I owe them a huge debt, and I would love to leave a legacy of hope for others by raising funds so that other patients and families can benefit in the same way that we have.

All donations are gratefully received.

Thank You
