They believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving their vision

Trek Patagonia: Wales and Patagonia share a unique relationship. In 1865 the first Welsh settlers arrived in Patagonia, joined by scores more over the following decades. Amongst them was my great grandmother, who was raised in "Y Wladfa" before returning to Wales as an adult. The Welsh language is still spoken by about 5,000 people in Patagonia.

Starting 16th October I will be taking part in a 10 day trek through the Los Glaciers National Park in Southern Argentina, in aid of MENCAP.

I'm on the final push of training, and it's getting serious ... as is the fundraising. Despite collecting a few blisters and pulled muscles, knowing that I'll be helping many people through MENCAP makes all the hard work worthwhile.

What am I doing to raise money?
Selling handmade cards and cakes - £300+ raised so far.
Online auction of celebrity autographs and memorabilia - £810 raised.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mencap will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Taith Patagonia: Mae gan Cymru a Phatagonia berthynas unigryw. Ym 1865 fe hwyliodd y Cymry gyntaf i Batagonia, a'u dilynwyd gan nifer helaeth dros y flynyddoedd i ddod. Yn eu mysg roedd fy hen fam-gu, a magwyd yn y Wladfa cyn dychwelyd i Gymru: darllenwch ei hanes yn y llyfrau "Nel Fach y Bwcs" a "Ffarwel Archentina". Mae tua 5,000 o bobl yn dal i siarad Cymraeg ym Mhatagonia.

Ar 16ed Hydref byddaf yn ymuno a hirdaith 10 diwrnod ym Mharc Cenedlaethol Los Glaciers yn ne Archentina, er budd MENCAP.

Gyda dim ond ychydig amser i fynd, mae'r gwaith hyfforddi wrthi o ddifri ... ynghyd a'r gwaith codi arian. Er byw trwy ambell i flister a sgrwb yn barod, mae gwybod fy mod yn helpu trwy MENCAP yn rhoi ysbrydoliaeth i gadw ati tan y diwedd.
