Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

We’re the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK. The carers, researchers and healthcare professionals. The family, friends and fundraisers. United by a clear vision: a future free from arthritis. One in which no one is limited by the pain, fatigue and isolation that arthritis can cause.

On 25th October I successfully completed the 10 mile run around the beautiful town of Portsmouth as part of my training regime for the next challenge for in order to raise money for Arthritis Research Campaign.

As an asthmatic with dodgy hips and bad circulation, I decided to take on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp over Christmas and New Year 2009 ...

Early in 2009 I decided I wanted to keep increasing the number of events I complete annually and other fundraising ideas in order to raise the maximum amount for this incredible charity which researches one of the cruellest diseases. Everyone has their own reasons for supporting charities, and of course I am no different. I have seen many years of suffering with this unrelenting disease and knew I would not be able to fundraise for any other charity when this one is so close to my heart.

On 17th December 2009 I flew to Kathmandu, Nepal, facing the biggest challenge of my life; a 15 day hike from Lukla to Everest Base Camp with a ‘physical rating’ of 5 out of 5. This was the first time I had ever taken on such a challenge for charity and am delighted to say that it was a success, although it was the most mentally and physically exhausting expedition I have ever undertaken. The incredibly emotional pinnacle of the trip is shown above. After 9 days of hiking and at 50% oxygen, we made Everest Base Camp at 5300m (17,400 feet) followed by Kala Pattar standing at 5545m (18,195 feet).

This trip was entirely funded by myself so that all donations will go directly to ARC not my airfare!!

'Trekkers seek the challenge of reaching the mountaineer's base camp, an incredible achievement in itself.'

Thank you so much for your support, it means so much and is immensely encouraging for me.
