Story
Hi, we're Team Melon and Big Dave. We met through "Rag" - the crazy world of student fundraising, so it seems fitting to use our nicknames from our uni days. Despite being Liverpool and Man Utd fans respectively, we've stayed good friends over the years, and seeing a challenge that let us play football, ride ponies and most importantly of all help fight the HIV epidemic that is sweeping Africa, how on Earth could we not sign up?
During our two week tour of Lesotho, we will:
Be trained to deliver HIV education games and activities to children in local schools, supported by qualified coaches, which is not like a typical charity event, as we will be directly delivering life-saving work
We'll play five games of football against local teams in front of hundreds of supporters (football is Lesotho's National Sport, and so a great way to get everyone engaged)
We'll also visit orphanages, community projects and sites of historic interest, and get to have a wee bit of a mountain trek too.
As well as directly helping Kick 4 Life's work whilst on tour, money raised will go towards Kick 4 Life's other projects, which currently include:
· The K4L Curriculum, a six week course of health education and life-skills development delivered by local role models trained by K4L · Our award-winning Test Your Team campaign which provides voluntary testing in an environment of positive peer pressure · A Scholarship Scheme which funds HIV positive children through school · A Street Youth Initiative enabling thousands of homeless children to enjoy sport and access key health and education services.
Big Dave is a crazy person with lots of experience of these things having trekked the Great Wall of China twice and done more marathons than is sensible, however, for Melon this is her first such charity adventure, so please give generously - donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
