My story

Well - I DID IT! Thanks for your support. Everyone. £2 or £20 has made a huge difference to the Alzheimer's Society and really helped me carry on over the 13.1 miles. It took me 3 hours 5 minutes and I ran the whole way! I can't walk now and I'm about to lose two toenails (mmm nice) but it was a fantastic day and I had a brilliant time.

I'm still taking donations even though I'm over the "target" - photos are to come!
x

Thank you so much for all the generous donations made so far - Almost at the target of £1000 (although I'll be accepting more if it goes over that amount!)
Your donation will make a huge impact to the Alzheimer's Society and will inspire me to run that little bit faster on Sunday. Thanks. xxx

What have I done...?!

I've finally got confirmation from the Alzheimer's Society that yes, I AM DOING THE GREAT NORTH RUN 2009.

A half marathon. 13 miles. Possibly one of the craziest ideas ever. As you know, I'm hardly the fittest person in the world, but I'm 100% willing to give this a shot to raise as much money as possible. (besides, I've already paid my registration fee... I'm not giving that up without a fight...)

Now for the serious bit:
The Alzheimer's Society is a charity that helps care for people with dementia, funding help for families affected by the burden of caring for a relative, rasing awareness of the disease, as well as attempting to find a cure. I've chosen to support this charity because my grandad has Alzheimer's Disease - it's really difficult to see someone who was once so funny and witty retract into himself and forget his surroundings, and I'm keen to further the work of this charity so that perhaps in a few years time the disease will be cured completely.
(for more information, have a browse: http://www.alzheimers.org.uk)

So all I need now is YOUR help. 10 pence or 10 pounds; any donation is much appreciated (especially considering just how much work I have to do to get in shape for this race!)

18th July - Just been to see my Grandad - I've put a photo of him up if you're interested! He's in good spirits, but it's good to go and see him to remind me why I'm putting myself through this running torture! (although, it's not too bad at the moment...) I'm about to hit the 1 hour milestone, I'm running 50 minutes this afternoon, 55 tomorrow, and 1 hour on Tuesday. So I'm ahead of schedule. Thanks for the continued support.
I'm also singing at my grandad's nursing home in a few weeks and I'm donating the fee to my justgiving page - singing gigs AND charity money! What a combo.
Oh, and I've almost lost two stone. Not that that's the reason I'm doing this, but it's an added bonus!

7th July - Thank you again for your continued support. I'm writing to the local papers as we speak so hopefully I'll get a spazzy picture of myself in print to promote my cause. The running is going brilliantly - I never thought someone who almost died doing the 800m at school would actually enjoy pounding the pavement. (oi oi...) The running shoes are comfy, and I've got some shorts as well! I'm increasing my time by 6 minutes a day and I've got over the psychological "i must stop" hurdles that seemed to occur every 10 mins or so!

11th April - Thanks so much for all the donations so far - I've crossed the £100 mark which is fantastic, but please keep the donations coming! I've been doing a lot of swimming this week to improve my fitness levels. I've also just replaced my running shoes so they don't damage my knees. Going well thus far!
