Imagine a world without elephants
Elephants are responsible for
maintaining the habitats of many other species in savannah and forest ecosystems. They
directly influence the composition and density of forests and can create clearings that encourage tree regeneration or reduce bush cover to create an environment favourable to many grazing animals.
In addition,
many plant species have seeds that are
dependent on passing through an elephant’s digestive tract before they can germinate. It is estimated that at least
one third of tree species in West African forests
rely on elephants in this way for distribution of their future generations.
We’re supporting the elephants because they're important to us - so much so that we've incorporated them into our company logo. Elephant populations are disappearing at an alarming rate -
poaching and the cultivation of elephant habitats by humans are the main causes of their
dwindling numbers. Research and education go a long way towards improving their situation.
Our goal is that of
Save the Elephants - to
sustain the
beauty and
ecological integrity of the places where elephants live, to promote man's delight in their intelligence and the diversity of their world, and to
develop a
tolerant relationship between the two species.
We hope you’ll join our mission.
We’ve kicked off this effort by donating $100 (£60) to
savetheelephants.org. And for every 10 hotels and 20 users that register on
memohotel before September 30, 2009, we will donate an additional $10 (£6) to the Save the Elephant fund.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Even a small donation of $5 (£3) helps! Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell your information or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money goes directly to Save the Elephants.
So please dig deep and donate now.
The elephants appreciate your support!
