Help us to raise £10,000 for Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Scotland!!!
Sam John and Laura Koppel are riding their horses from Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, to Tonna Hospital in Neath, South Wales. This is going to cover 430 miles and take 21 days to complete.
In November 2007 Sam's Dad 'Barrie John' died of Alzheimer's Disease, in Tonna Hospital. The Alzheimer's Society were a great deal of support to my family at this time. By helping to raise money for both of these charities, your money could do the following:
£1 pays for help cards, which people with dementia could use tho comunicat the type of support they need from people around them.
£7 pays for 'Caring for a person with dementia' - the Society's flagship publication that is filled with information about dementia and practical suggestions for carers.
£45 funds and Alzheimer's Society outreach worker to visit two people with dementia at home.
£300 helps fund the cost of three bath lifts for people with dementia so they can be cared for in their own homes.
£5,000 could support a reasercer for one year with the chemicals and equipment they need to further understand the causes of dementia so that better treatments can be developed.
Dementia is not just memory loss - it's the slow failure of the brain. It can strike in your forties, and in time people with dementia need help to do everything: Dress, walk and even swallow. There are 700,000 people with dementia in the uk. One in three peopl over 65 will die with dementia.
