Story

Hello and thank you for visiting our page.

We are trying to raise money for The Christie Charity. The Christie Charity is a charity that raises money to fund projects at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust which are outside the scope of the NHS. The projects include a new radiopharmacy, to communications skills training for nursing staff, a new state-of-the-art surgical robot, groundbreaking cancer research and our wig service (to name but a few).

http://www.christie.nhs.uk/the-christie-charity.aspx

Each of us taking part in the fundraising have been touched in some way by someone that has had a form of cancer and have been treated at The Christie. We feel passionately about The Christie and hope that you will dig deep and support out little adventure.

So to raise money for The Christie, we have set outselves a "little" challenge. Jon is going to try to run from St Bees in the Lake District to Robin Hoods Bay on the Yorkshire coast. Jamie and Addam are going to ride the route on mountain bikes to make sure that he does not hurt himself (Jon can't be trusted). Liz is the resident creative person and organiser and is helping with our fundraising.

Some of you may know that there is a famous Coast to Coast walk. As Jamie and Addam will be riding on mountain bikes they will not be able to follow the walking route. Therefore, we are all doing the mountain bike route.

This will be around 214 miles in total and we propose to do it over 8 days. It is an average of 26.75 miles per day, however, the actual route itself will be:

Day 1 - St Bees to Ennerdale - 17 Miles
Day 2 - Ennerdale to Eskdale - 15 miles
Day 3 - Eskdale to High Town - 27 miles
Day 4 - High Town to Kirkby Stephen - 36 miles
Day 5 - Kirkby Stephen to Grinton - 30 miles
Day 6 - Grinton to Osmotherley - 33 miles
Day 7 - Osmotherley to Glaisdale - 31 miles
Day 8 - Glaisdale to Robin Hood's Bay - 25 miles

We are intending to set off on the 6 April 2012 and finish on the 13 April 2012.

In addition to our little challenge, we will be holding a number of events over the next 6 months. We started this off with a Haloween Tennis Tournament at Lostock Tennis Club. We have to say a massive thanks to Lostock who raised an awesome £118 for us. Thanks guys.

We are now planning our next events.

Now for the cheeky bits........

We appreciate every donation, no matter how small. Also, could you please forward this group to any friends that you may have that may be interested in our fundraising.

Thanks and take care,

The Men in Tights.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
