About DebRA

DebRA provides an expert team of nurses and social care staff to work directly with families affected by EB, visiting them in their own homes, and by being on 24 hour call should any advice be needed.

The charity also commissions world-leading research into the condition with the aim of finding effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB. Because DebRA receives no government funding, DebRA relies on the generosity of the public to carry out its vital work, improving lives and giving hope.

For more information and to view a short video clip showing the reality of living with EB please visit www.debra.org.uk.

Please give generously and thank you for your support.

Why donate to DebRA?

Hollie’s story

Hollie was born on 12 March 2004 with Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

Like any other little girl, Hollie loves to dance, play and have fun. But if Hollie bumps herself or her clothes rub, her skin blisters and comes away.  When it occurs in her mouth or throat she struggles to eat or drink until the pain dies down.

Every morning, Hollie’s dressings need to be removed, her blisters lanced and fresh bandages applied.  This has to be repeated in the evening, before bed. This is an extremely painful process. To try and reduce Hollie’s distress, her mum dyes her bandages a variety of colours to co-ordinate with her daughter’s outfits.

Without DebRA’s support, Hollie could not live her life to the full. The charity relies on fundraising events to carry out its vital work, improving lives and giving hope to families affected by EB.

What can DebRA do with your donation?

£2.50 – 'Scratch Mitts' to prevent a baby born with EB from tearing their own skin.

£5 – A set of easy grip chunky pens to help children hold a pen when their fingers are fused together from repeated scarring.

£10 – A tube of ‘no sting medical adhesive remover’ to help ease the pain of dressing changes.

£25 – One hour of research to bring us closer to finding an effective treatment of EB.

£50 – Accomodation for one parent of a child in hospital.£150 – A pressure relief mattress to relieve the discomfort of sleeping.

£500 – A home aire conditioning unit. Imagine how uncomfortable it is in warm weather hwn your body is tightly wrapped in bandages. An air conditioning unit is essential apparatus to help keep the skin cool.

£3,000 – A special cot for an EB child at home.

£10,000 – Support for our 3 mobile homes a year – giving a great many children with EB and their families a much needed holiday break.

£50,000 – Specialist nursing care in the for one year.

£100,000 – Funding for one of our skin cancer research programmes for 6 months.

Every donation received, large or small, is important and makes a rela difference to the charity’s work. The money is used as it is received to provide practical and immediate help to the EB community we serve.
