Story

Firstly, thanks very much for taking the time to visit our page!

.

This coming summer Matt Black, Billy Fitton, Felix Sowerbutts and Theo Wyld are taking on America! We are cycling the entire length of the east coast. A total of approximately 2,000 miles and wiggling our way through 13 different states.

.

We touch down in our start point, Miami, on the 10th of August and we hope to reach the finish line in Portland, Maine on the 12th of September. We will be carrying essentials such as tents, sleeping bags, Sudocrem etc. whilst trying to average 90 miles a day in the brutal summer sun.

.

We have chosen to do this ride in aid of Chernobyl Children In Need (CCIN). Although it has been 25 years since the Chernobyl disaster, it continues to affect the lives of many. Belarus was the region hit worst with 70% of the radioactive fallout landing on its territory. It is estimated to take 400 years for the radiation to leave the ground. The exposure to the radiation and the ingestion of radioactive food means that many children are born deformed and that cancers are extremely common.

.

This charity is run by volunteers who bring groups of children to England from Belarus for a month of respite. The charity pays over £300 pounds per child to fund the travel costs and to help the host families provide for the children.

.

For those lucky enough to come over, just one month of eating nourishing food, resting from the relentless radiation and breathing clean air can add 2 years to their life expectancy!

.

If you would like any further information, (or even better if you were interested in being a host family), please visit their website:

.

http://www.ccin.co.uk/

.

We would also like to thank everyone who has donated for our previous trips, we are so grateful. All your generous donations meant Theo, Matt, Billy and Harry's trip through Spain and Portugal raised £17,000 for DebRA!

.

You can track our progress on our blog: www.logmytrip.co.uk

.

So please help us try and top that for an extremely worthwhile cause!
