Story
Hi, Thank you very much for visiting my fund raising page and if you know me then you’ll know that
A. I’ve never run further than my car during a rain storm and I must be totally stark raving mad to even consider running a Half Marathon.
- AND -
B. I love my son so so much, and I’m extremely proud of him for enduring what has been a very tough couple of years.!!
The reason I’m so passionate about raising money for the B.C.R.T. is not only to raise money to help with research into Bone Cancers, but also to bring them to the forefront of peoples minds, parents, carers and the professionals out there.
Bradley was complaining for 18 months to our doctors about continuing pain in his leg before an x-ray and scans were carried out to find out the cause of his pain.
He was diagnosed with Ewing’s in his right tibia and has since gone through just under a year of chemotherapy, during which he complained very little.
He had two major operations to try and save his leg and on the 19th May he had a Below Knee Amputation
. He really wants to get back on with his life, get back to his sports, college and drive his new car.
Unfortunately, both Bradley and I know of others who haven’t been so fortunate in their outcomes from this horrible cancer and for these people I am willing to run to as far as my little legs will allow me!!
Please dig deep, empty those piggy banks, turn the sofa upside down, please please sponsor me.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bone Cancer Research Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.![]()
14/8/8 Update on my training so far - unfortunately, shin pain again means that training is going slower than i'd have hoped, i really really hope that i'll be able to get round the 13miles in one way or another and i'd love to not let people down that have been so generous and sponsored me so far.
31/8/8 In the past week, i've managed to walk approx 12km with no shin pain, so i'll continue to walk everyday and build up my distance and hopefully i'll be able to walk the marathon if i can't run it. XXXX
6/9/8 Last week i did a total of 17km, not too painful, been to see physio for massage and acupuncture, will continue with this now until after the marathon. Done 7km today, really looking forward to the day now, only 35 days to go!!!!!
14/9/8 Training still going well but slow, more physio this week and new insoles to help with what i'm told are my flat feet and over pronation.
21/9/8 Hi, i had a fantastic day today, I decided to do my first 10k run, and completed this in a not so fast but very satisfying 1hr20mins. The best bit was arriving home to a nice cup of tea, but the worst part - the ICE BATH - not nice!!!!![]()
28/9/8 Hi, my 2nd 10k was run this morning, misty, foggy morning, a bit cold but i soon warmed up. Quite a lot of traffic on the road this morning, had to keep moving out of the way for inconsiderate drivers - rant rant!! Even though i thought i hadn't done very well because of the distractions i amazingly did it in 1hr 15mins. Woohoo!!!
10/10/8 Hi, Unfortunately Bradley is in hospital this week and i haven't been able to train as much as normal, had physio yesterday and as long as i take it easy and listen to the pain
i should be able to get round the route in a reasonable time. I'm really excited now and all thats left is to pray for some fine weather, not too cold and not too warm either, and definately NO RAIN!!! Thanks to all my sponsors, can't believe we have raised so much - i've been told that between all the runners for the BCRT we have raised £25,000.00 which is amazing - woohoo!!
yes i did it, what a wonderful day, lovely weather and fantastic support throughout the whole route, really kept me going when it got tough.
I finished in 2hrs 52mins, a little tortoise like, but you know the story of the tortoise don't you - gets there in the end.
Between the runners who were there for the B.C.R.T we raised over £42K - fantastic amount.
Best news of all was NO SHIN PAIN, not even the slightest, many many thanks to my physio Katie @ Cambridge Sports Physio, best advice followed and very grateful that it allowed me to run completely pain free.
