Thank you for visiting my page.
Together with other members of my family I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro starting on 23 August 2008 and, all being well, reaching the summit on 29 August. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895m or 19,340ft
I am using the expedition to raise money for The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust. Tom and I were colleagues in the same department at Linklaters. Tom was robbed and killed on 12 January 2006 as he walked home from Kensal Green underground station to the home he shared with his fiancée, Adele Eastman. He was 31 years old. Tom’s parents, Adele and Linklaters have established the charity as a lasting memorial to him. Its objectives are summarised on the left of this page and more information can be found at http://www.linklaters.com/tarp/index.html.
Donating through this site is quick, easy and secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust receives your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving can reclaim 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, to add to your donation.
Thank you very much for sponsoring me.
UPDATE - 30 August 2008
We did it! After 6 days walking, gradually gaining height from 3300m to 4550m, we left our final campsite just after midnight in the morning of 29 August. After 6 hours slow, exhausting plod in thin air up steep scree, we reached the crater rim at sunrise, and the summit itself (5895m) at 7am.
Very many thanks to all my sponsors. It made a real difference knowing you were behind me. There were numerous occasions, particularly on that last morning, when it would have been easy to give up, but your support was a powerful inducement persuading me to keep going. Thank you again.
