Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
In 2007 Marie and I took part in the Moonlight Colourthon to raise money on behalf of the RNIB. The purpose of this was to support a close friend and colleague of ours, Fiona, whose husband Chris, was struck down by blindness at the age of 19.
In September of last year Chris passed away after a long struggle with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis which left him, at the end of his life, totally dependent on Fiona and his family for everything. The Christopher Nutbeen Fund has been set up in memory of this remarkable man.
Chris had always said that nothing was worse than going blind at 19 and together with Fiona and Chris’ family, we want to ensure that his passing was not in vain and the greatest tribute we can pay to him is to do all we can to fund research into Leber’s Heridatary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), the illness that made him go blind.
So it's time to walk another 13+miles. DDAY IS 4/7/09
All of the money we raise will go to Professor Chinnery's Research team at Newcastle University.
Professor Chinnery said this
'LHON is a devastating eye disease that causes irreversible blindness and hits otherwise healthy people in their mid-20s. Unfortunately there are no treatments for the condition. We need to know much more about the cause of LHON so we can develop new treatments. This is a major focus of my research group.'
Please help us do all we can!!!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Newcastle University gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for your support.
