Story

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT THEN

Well for those of you who know me it’s simple, even when well over 60 years old, I have got to have a bit of a challenge.   I am not that crazy to want to climb Everest or to sail non stop around the world, not even an Atlantic crossing, or even ride a motorbike from Ireland to Australia.  No my challenge is a lot shorter and simpler, but I have to say, with three months to go before I get started, I am a bit nervous . . .

and also excited at the same time .

Firstly, I want you to know that I am going to try and raise a bit of money for CANCER RESEACH, and I should like your help in this.  In return, I will send you a regular bloggy kind of update, with pictures and some video of my progress, of my good days and my bad days etc etc ,,, so, if you're not that bothered about donating a few bob to charity, that’s ok but if you are, then please go to the link at the bottom of this page and put in a few bob ,, “you know it makes sense”OK, are you ready?

I have a little yacht called Simo, it's 25 foot long, made of wood and was built in 1961, so it's old, but not as old as me.   By the way, it’s a fantastic little boat. Currently the yacht is in France at a little place called Gruissan in the Mediterranean, but come the first week in April, I plan to sail it down the coast of Spain to Gibraltar, and then out into the Atlanti to the Algarve, a place called Lagos in fact, so that is about 1000 miles.  Then, sail out into the middle of the Atlantic to an island called Madiera.  Yes it sounds fantastic, and I really hope it is, but it does mean sailing day and night for about ten days, without seeing any land, and gawd knows how deep it is, but it is nigh on 500 miles to get there, and then I have to get back.  Hopefully, the sea will stay calm, and the wind won’t exceed force 4, the moon will come out most nights, and the sun will shine every day.   SO THAT IS MY CHALLENGE .

Over the next couple of months I will be doing a bit of work on the boat, and taking all sorts of advice from people, sometimes with a pinch of salt.  I am looking forward to sharing it with you all, BUT, YOU MUST TELL ME TO ADD YOU TO THE LIST.  Just send me an e-mail request to v113simo@yahoo.co.uk , and I'll let you know each time I update the blog.  The last thing I want is to be troubling you, but once you are on the list, you will get the updates, and even, HOPEFULLY, be able to follow my progress on Google Earth.

Just click on the link at the bottom of the page to go straight to the blog.
