Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I will be running the London Marathon to support the Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA). CMA works to provide information and support to individuals and their families affected by cardiomyopathy.

'Cardiomyopathy' is a medical term meaning 'disease of the heart muscle'. It is often thought of as a rare condition, therefore receiving less attention than many other conditions. This perception is wrong. Some forms of cardiomyopathy are estimated to affect 1 in 500 of the population. The condition has a wide range of presentations. There may be no or minimal sypmtoms, and in others, tragically, the first symptom may be sudden death. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in people under the age of 35. Sadly I lost a close friend in these circumstances, and have subsequently supported CMA since then.

Your support to CMA will not only be appreciated by me, but by all the families and friends of those affected by cardiomyopathy.
