<p>In May 2013, after months of intense training in all weather conditions (including wind and rain: hard to escape when you live by the sea) I will be cycling from London to Paris over 5 days clocking up 300 miles...this will by no means be easy with around 10 hours spent on the road without my home comforts such as a hairdryer and my nightly dose of eastenders. This will all be worth it to know that I am helping a charity to fund treatment for patients with kidney disease and vital research into better treatment, prevention and maybe even a cure to kidney disease.</p> <p>WHY KIDNEY RESEARCH?...</p> <p>I have chosen kidney research due to personal reasons, my younger sister was diagnosed with a type of kidney disease called Nephrotic syndrome when she was just 9 years old after weeks spent ill in hospital she was told that she may eventually need a kidney transplant. She is well at the moment but still needs to go for regular check ups at the hospital to monitor her health.</p> <p>In the UK there are currently over 3 million people whos lives are threatened by chronic kidney disease, and over 43,000 people undergoing dialysis treatment or transplant treatment at any one time with this figure set to double over the next 10 years.</p> <p>Of the 7,655 people currently on the organ transplant waiting list 7,000 of them are awaiting a kidney.
