The Vodafone Big Bike Challenge – LEJOG · 9 September 2014 to 14 September 2014 ·

We are raising funds for Instant Network Emergency Response (INER). When disaster strikes, Vodafone Foundation volunteers deploy to restore free vital connectivity for families, responders and communities. INER also builds resilience through local hubs to reach more people quickly and effectively.

Story

Thanks for visiting my Justgiving page.

There are 41,000 HIV positive children in Lesotho but only 4,000 of them currently receive treatment.  With your help, we can change this situation for the better by getting the other 37,000 children the life-saving treatment they need.

Most of these youngsters (c 90%) will die before their fifth birthday if they do not get treatment and many live in rural areas that are not easily accessible.

To help, I am cycling 100 miles from Bath to Ludlow on Sept 8th and the funds I raise will also be used to provide perinatal services for mothers, preventing maternal death and the transmission of HIV from mothers to babies.

Money raised will help in the following ways:

Transport: travel funds will be sent via mobile money, so children and expectant mothers can travel to get treatment - this costs just £20.

Testing: test results will be sent via mobile, speeding up both diagnosis and treatment - £50 will pay for a mobile enabled paediatric HIV test including the transport of the blood sample.

Treatment: travelling clinics, co-ordinated via mobile, will enable nurses to reach both children and mothers more efficiently.

So please, give what you can, today. Thank you.
