In September, I'm competing in the London Duathlon. It's a 10km run, then a 20km bike ride, all rounded off by a 5km run. It's a stepping stone to something much bigger and more frightening next year, but I fear it's going to hurt, just the same. The ideal cyclist is built like a whippet, the ideal runner like a greyhound. I resemble neither...

I'm raising funds for the Prostate Cancer Charity. The disease kills a man every hour in the UK, and the charity supports sufferers and their families at every point, from diagnosis onwards. I ran the London Marathon for them in April, and as they've still not bothered to find a cure, I've decided I'd better do this, too.

And all you have to do to prolong my own discomfort is to pledge me a fiver. Just a fiver each, and one morning of pain for me (and hours and hours of training) can help some great people do wonderful work.
