I am taking part in the New York City Marathon on November 1st 2009 primarily as a personal challenge but also to raise money for St Joseph's Hospice, Thornton, North Liverpool. They do a wonderful job caring for and supporting people with terminal illness, and their families, during extremely difficult times in their lives. It was at St Joseph's that I started my career in palliative care and it will always have a special place in my heart.
