Story
IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE ON THIS PAGE READ THE RED TEXT BELOW !!!!! and pick your option :o)
Before we ask you to part with your hard earned cash we think it only fair that you are treated to a little background knowledge on the participants of this particular challenge.
And a challenge it will be! Firstly we introduce Skip. Now Skip's challenge will be removing that bar stool from her backside and persuading her to put her WKD Blue down for a couple of hours. Our Antipodean friend enjoys a little tipple now and again.. and all the moments in-between.. so this could also prove interesting. Expect her to stop after no more than one mile, having made acquaintance with the owner of a bottle of lukewarm vodka.
The second participant is yidaho. Now the challenge for yidaho is that this race takes place at 11am meaning that she'll have to drag her lazy arse out of bed before noon on the day of the event. This previously unheard of occurrence is worthy of a few quid alone. We suspect that yidaho will be attempting to download a program from the internet that can run the race for her between now and September 3rd.
The third participant is Michelle. Now Michelle's challenge will be to squeeze the event in to her hectic schedule as this girl Does. Not. Stop. We'll be dragging her from her car boot stall, whilst persuading her that she doesn't have the time go to step class that morning, nor fly off to Portsmouth to visit her mother, nor take the kids swimming. And all long before yidaho has risen from her sinking pit, or Skip has downed her first bottle of alcopop.
Having read the brief bios above, you'll be amazed to learn the reason for choosing the South West Thames Kidney Fund as our supported charity for this event.
A Word From Michelle
I am a married mother of 2, living in Epsom and working part time, and this is my story in short.... I was 30 years old when in October 2003 I was diagnosed with complete renal failure, within 2 weeks of my diagnosis I was having to dialyse every day, I had my ups and downs and spent a short while visiting haemodialysis 3 times a week. After a 15 month period of dialysing January 2005 I was given the gift of a new Kidney, 16 months on and I am now feeling fit enough to tackle this challenge to help give a little back.
Contributions to this charity are much needed and without such funds there would be no research, NO research NO cure.
Thank you again for looking and hopefully donating to this charity. As mentioned above I will be attempting this run along with the handicap of my two friends, you have to feel for me, for that if nothing else.
So, as is patently clear, this challenge is not merely taking a 3 mile stroll through Hyde Park .. oh no.. it is much more than that!
Furthermore, for your continued amusement, we are giving you - the sponsors - a chance to decide just how we are going to manoeuvre these three girls around the park in the most ridiculous fashion. Below are several options. We would like you to choose one of these when donating via the online form.
Option 1: Fancy Dress
Option 2: Five Legged Challenge
Option 3: Blindfolded (one at a time)
Option 4: Riding Ostriches
Option 5: Carrying a giant kidney
Simply enter the option number in the comments box on the sponsorship page.
In return we shall invite you to browse a plethora of gruelling pictures of this challenge from the struggling start to the formidable finish - the whereabouts of the images will remain top secret until you have shown your encouragement and support on the sponsor page.
Thanking you now..
.. cos we'll be hating you later.
