The page will be open for another few weeks for donations if you didn't manage it beforehand. ****************************************************************************************** Olympic Distance - 1500m swim (in the lovely docks), 40k cycle, 10k run. Firstly, thanks again to everyone that donated money to Leukaemia Research last year. I hadn't planned to raise money for doing the same event this year but when my brother, Adrian, passed away at the start of this year, I felt I should try and raise some money for a charity that helped him in his last few months. In May 2007 Adrian was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. He was treated with chemotherapy throughout the summer months and put on a new drug, Tarceva. For three months he was able to lead a very full life. Unfortunately, in December, he started getting pain in his legs, and in January this was found to be caused by a secondary in the spine. He received radiotherapy as an In-Patient at Barts & The London and was discharged home on 25th January, where my parents cared for him until he passed away peacefully on 4th February. He was very courageous throughout all his treatments and maintained a positive attitude towards his illness right to the end. The Ellenor Foundation is a local charity which provides hospice care at home and gave us tremendous support. It was with their help that Adrian was able to spend his last days where he most wanted to be, in his own room, in his own home, with his family.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Ellenor and Lions Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
