Saturday, 19th September 2009. 3am.
What will you be doing? At home sleeping? Drinking the night away at some undisclosed bar/pub?
Asleep on a night bus home from the aforementioned bar/pub?
Well for this intrepid team of hikers, we won't be doing any of the
above. Instead we will be midway through a
20 mile hike around London.
You read correctly! That evening sees the annual
Maggie's London Night
Hike. No, it's not a hike led by our own Margaret Leahy (although
knowing her, she is likely to take over the event). Rather its an event
organised by
Maggie's Centres which is an organisation which helps people adjust to living with cancer. Its
pioneering support programme has been developed for patients, their
carers, family and friends. Their centres, located close to NHS
hospitals, allow people to be close to their loved ones during difficult times, yet feel at home in a relaxed supportive atmosphere.
Almost everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer in their
lifetimes, and we realise it's a difficult time for those involved, both sufferers and their family and friends. This event provides
an opportunity to do our small bit in supporting that cause by raising
awareness and a small amount of money for the charity.
We understand that financially times are tough and that you probably
sighed when you realised that another of your friends was asking you
for fundraising money. It's not easy for us to ask this of you either, but we really believe in this cause. If you could donate any small amount it'd be
fantastic.
If not, your support on the evening, whether you are at home in bed or
asleep on the N206 headed swiftly for a rude awakening in Chingford, would be
appreciated too.
Thanks from all of us. Really. Thank you.
Mag, Jennie, Tom, Hillary, Bevan and Stuart
