Thanks for visiting this page.

As some of you will know, my mum has been working in Uganda as a nurse for VSO. She is currently fundraising to try and buy enough mosquito nets for the village she's working in - Miirya.

To help her achieve this I'm going to be running 6 half marathons in between February-April 2009. Both my mum and I and of course the people of Miirya are grateful for your support which will undoubtedly save lives. Full details of the project can be found below.

Thank you

Atheer

FOAG has been working in Masindi, Uganda for several years and has agreed to channel money raised on this page to the Miirya Village Volunteer Project.

This project was started with the help of VSO Uganda. We have been working in Miirya sub county since July 2008.Village volunteers have been trained in preventative health with an emphasis on malaria prevention. They have collected data from their villages which confirms the large burden of malaria and the low use of treated nets. The volunteers have been working in the villages and have educated villagers about the use of long term treated mosquito nets. They have created a demand for these nets.

Our challenge is to provide nets at an affordable price. The villagers have agreed that 3000 Ugandan shillings (about £1) is acceptable. This money will be used to buy more nets. We need your help to provide the funds to purchase and distribute the nets. Our best price to purchase nets for the project is 7000 ush. We estimate we will need at least 5000 nets to satisfy the demand and provide at least one net per household.

Please help us raise the money quickly and reduce the impact of malaria on this rural community. Nets save lives.
