CLAPA is the national UK charity supporting people affected by cleft lip and palate. We provide specialist feeding equipment, trusted information, one‑to‑one and online support, youth services, and community events, while raising awareness and championing better cleft care for all.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My son, Jack Flynn, was born with a bilateral Cleft lip, and Palate. Sarah and I found out at the 20 week scan. We were devastated. CLAPA were a source of profound comfort and support during this time, and when he was born in March this year, we were well prepared and able to cope with his problems.

A bilateral cleft occurs for no good reason, and affects roughly 1 in 700 chldren born every year in this country. By donating to my mammoth trek, you will be ensuring that hundreds of other parents given the traumatic news that their child's face has not formed properly will be given the support and preparation they need to raise their child, and guide them through the corrective operations necessary.

Jack is a fantastic addition to our lives, and as he approaches his first operation we feel comforted by CLAPA that all will be ok. Please donate so other parents can be as confident as us.

Together with Jack's Godfather Nick, I'm undertaking the enormous 163 mile Saxon Shore Walk - an official walk endorsed by KCC. It'll take us a week to do (we hope) and we expect an adventurous yet thoroughly knackering time.
