After completing the New York Marathon in 2006, me with a dose of shingles and Mark wandering around in a daze after smashing into the wall at about 16-miles, we both agreed that our marathon running days were over. Throughout 2007 we carried on running, entered several half marathons and even created our own event, the 22-mile “Three Hills Challenge”. This made us start thinking about running a marathon again and in a moment of madness we entered! Clearly we had forgotten about the exhaustion, the pain and the hundreds of miles of training in the cold and dark. Why did we change our minds? Well there are several reasons, firstly, the thing about running is that you quickly lose your fitness if you stop so as we were still running it seemed a good idea to have something to focus our efforts on. Secondly, it is such an incredible experience being part of the London Marathon, running with forty or so thousand others for mile after mile through hundreds of thousands of cheering people. Thirdly, pushing yourself to the absolute limits of your physical and mental capacity is something that is very rewarding (afterwards) and well worth doing more than once in a lifetime, and finally, knowing that through your kindness and generosity the money that we raise for Addaction might just help someone so much less fortunate than ourselves, makes all of the pain, all of the emotion and all of the effort so very worthwhile. Please help us once again to reach our target of £2000 by sponsoring our efforts to run our third and who knows, maybe our last London Marathon. Many thanks in advance for your support. Mike & Mark
