Story

Update Monday 22 June.

Amazing - everyone in the team of 16 made it in under 24 hours, except one poor chap who had to drop out after Ben Nevis with an injured knee.

My own time was 22 hours 45 minutes - way better than I hoped for.

I have increased my target to £2,500 as lots of kind people have said they planned to sponsor me, but didn't get round to it before the event. So, if that's you - thank you so much for anything you are about to give...!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the "3 Peaks Challenge" on 20 June 20, 2009. One website (www.3peaks.info) describes the challenge this way:

"The National Three Peaks walk involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales -  Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon respectively. Different people will take different periods of time to do the 3 peaks. Those who are brave, noble, or just plain stupid, try to do all 3 within the space of 24 hours."

Being neither brave nor noble, I leave it to your powers of deduction to work out my rationale for trying the 24 hour approach. We'll set off up Ben Nevis at 5pm on the 20th June. After around 14.5 hours climbing and 9.5 hours driving, we aim to be back down Snowdon by no later than 4.59pm on the 21st.

Why? A fair question! Aside from deciding it was time to try to increase my general fitness and decrease my general fatness, the main reason is to raise funds for a charity - Hope 4 the World - which funds schools and medical facilities for some of the world's poorest, especially in Burma.

The challenge does have a personal aspect to it, in that one of my brothers was tragically killed in a climbing accident on Snowdon many years ago (1972), and also while I have been training for this event recently, sadly my Dad has died. So, I shall be climbing in memory of both of them.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hope 4 the World gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for visiting this page, and thank you for considering supporting me in raising funds for such a great cause.
