Brooklands 10k Run · 28 March 2010

The Raven Trust supports the development of community eye health care in northern Malawi, mainly through mission hospitals at Livingstonia, Embangweni and Ekwendeni. We sponsor medical training and supply medical equipment.

Story

Update: Thanks to everyone who has contributed, we've hit our target. In fact, when we include the Gift Aid money, we've donated over £1400. Which just happens to be the sum the Raven Trust need to make the whole Bullock project work. We're all grateful to everyone who has helped and we're sure Dad would be pleased!

UPDATE: The day of the race. What a day - all seven of us ran our hearts out, six personal bests, and the first (and last )appearance of Wonderwoman at Brooklands!
Hannah and Daniel set the tone with great performances in the Fun Run, Daniel coming in 4th! Then the 10k, where everyone got round in good times, not least Sam who looks like having an official time of around 48mins. Mum and Mandy supported, and now we're on tenterhooks waiting for the confirmed times. Wonderwoman caused a stir in the warmup session, but once the race started, I could put my red race down to effort, not embarrasment.
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, but we're still a bit short of the target. Please help if you can, every penny will go to a great cause.

UPDATE: Mark's esteemed  colleagues have thrown down a spandex gauntlet, and challenged me to run in a Superhero outfit. Wonderwoman is the current favourite! I'm going to need a bit more encouragement, but if enough people egg me on I'll do it. The best way to egg me on is to donate......

Before our father and grandfather Mike Greenwood died last year, he asked us to continue raising money for two charities he worked with. How could we refuse? So, we've thrown down the gauntlet to the whole family to take part in the annual 10k run at Brooklands on Sunday 28th March.

Helen, Toby, Hannah and Daniel, Anne, Mark and Sam are all in deep training for this event. We’re hoping you can help us raise money for the Raven Trust.

The Raven Trust is a small but brilliant charity working in rural Malawi. They work with local communities to improve agriculture, education and health and because they work so closely with the people, the success they have is incredible. Last year we raised money for a bullock enclosure and shelter. This proved extremely succesful. So, this year they are asking for help to buy two more bullocks, a plough and a ridger for a small village in the Henga Valley. This village is very remote and the people are very poor. Having bullocks and a plough will enable them to improve their crop yields and also hire out the bullocks to generate income.

This project is exactly the sort of scheme Dad saw when he and Mum went out to Malawi. It would be close to his heart. Last year we raised £1000 for the Raven Trust. Thanks to many people, we hit that target. So this year, with your help, we hope to hit the target again. Please would you sponsor us?

Brooklands is the perfect place to do a run in Dad's memory, as he knew Brooklands in its heyday of Bentley Blowers and Brough Superiors. We’re looking forward to the day with various degrees of trepidation, but we all promise to run our hardest. The older runners will do the full 10k and the under 15s will do the 3k race.

We’re also raising money for the Jubilee Sailing Trust. You can donate to them too, if you want! Go to:
