Story

My name is Michael Lightowlers and I work at No1 Mess Bar OACTU as a civilian at RAF Cranwell and would like to thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is the first of what i would like to call many a cycle ride in aid of Cancer Research. This all started back in September 2010 when i was fortuate to have a new racing bike. I did the odd ride but was struggling but on the other hand determined to achive my goal, so come January of this year I took up cycling seriously and joined the Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club, as I was getting very overweight and needed to do something about it.

We are in August now and i am 35lb lighter and ready to go. I approached Chris Cunliffe and told him what i was planning to do,cycle to Scarborough and back as I was going to be on holiday up there and thought it would be great fun to do!! Chris suggested that i do this for charity. So yeh, why not ,i was already heading that way, why not get some money for a worthy cause

So here it is and fast approaching the first of my goals!!

On the 20th August 2011 I will be cycling to Scarborough from Cranwell then the following Saturday or Sunday 27th or 28th cycling back again. This will be covering a total distance of 220 miles or for the more modern who work in european numbers 352km.****** UPDATE ****** Well i made it there and back suprised myself!!!! In fact i didn't know that Lincolnshire had hills like that and as for Yorkshire OMG some were a little steep and long to say the least!!! I had a great time and i must say a fellow cyclist, Kathy from the Sleaford Wheelers came with me to Scarborough then Kathy and her husband Dave met me today at the Humber Bridge to cycle back with me which was hard for the fact we got caught in a thunder storm near Market Rasen and then followed by a head wind for the last 20 odd miles. Anyway i would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that donated and thank you for your support.

I know times are hard at present and i would dearly love your support in this little venture. I shall keep you posted as to my progress as much as i can on the day.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
