During the last 20 years two members of my extended family have been struck down by Motor Neurone Disease, a devastating disease that is always fatal.  My mother-in-law is currently suffering at an advanced stage.  There is no cure, and currently no treatment for MND, other than palliative, nor do doctors fully understand what causes it.  

I'm running my first half marathon on behalf of the MND association at the Great Eastern Run in October.  Having already exceeded 300 miles of training, I'm hoping to complete the course in under 2 hours, but it will be awfully close.  I've set myself a high sponsorship total but if you don't ask / beg you'll not receive.  Any amount, no matter how small, will be hugely appreciated.

UPDATE: Sadly my mother-in-law, Pauline, passed away on Monday 9th October.

This last week has been difficult, especially for Pauline's family but it has ended on a positive note. Today October 15th Christine and I ran the Great Eastern Run half marathon. I ran 1 hr 49 mins 15 secs (official time) and came 789th. I hope the money raised can help others affected by MND, just as Pauline received assistance from the MND Association, but mostly I hope that a cure or effective treatment for this awful disease can be found.
