UPDATE: I completed the Marathon in 3 hours 9 minutes 23.6 seconds on the morning of 1st December. Last hour was horrible, and I wouldn't want to repeat that experience, but at least it was for a good cause! Anyone who hasn't yet donated (but you _know_ you really want to), it isn't too late!

Hi everyone,

As I'm now working for the BBC, it is only right that I put myself through some discomfort for the sake of their fantastic charity, Children in Need.

So I've decided to take on the challenge of rowing a full marathon (42,195m, or 26.2 mile) on one of the Concept 2 rowing machines in the BBC White City Gym. (I'll probably be doing it on the morning of Thursday 24th, work and gym access permitting, and assuming I don't get injured/ill in the meantime - even if there is a delay, I _will_ do this though!)

I've only been rowing again for just under 8 weeks, after having had a break for almost 5 years, so from nothing and badly unfit to a full marathon in two months is a significant challenge. Wish me luck, and sponsor me for Children in Need.

For those that don't know much about rowing a marathon, here are some numbers: It'll take around 3 hours to complete, and I'll burn about 2,700 calories, and probably lose about 3-4 kg of weight. And there will be blisters...

(And before anyone else says it, _apparently_ it is 'all about the pacing' ;-)

[I'll update this page with some more details and maybe even a nice picture later, when I get the time.]
