Story
After a haemorrhagic stroke in June of last year the left side of my body was completely paralysed and it was several weeks before I could successfully wiggle even a finger. At that time my main mode of transport was a wheelchair powered by fabulous NHS nurses and therapists and the idea of getting back on my bike seemed a very distant dream.
When I left hospital in September I contacted the Stroke Association and among other really helpful pieces of advice they put me in touch with Get Cycling, an organisation which specialises in all-ability cycling. To cut a long story short I am now the proud owner of a trike which has transformed my life and dramatically increased my mobility and independence.
To celebrate the first anniversary of leaving hospital I am thrilled to be able to take part in the Stroke Association’s Escape the City cycle ride on Sunday 30th September and I am hoping to raise £500 to support the work of this fantastic charity. It will be great to be able to give something back to help other stroke survivors.
