Thank you enormously to everyone that has visited this site and made your pledges.
For those of you that I have not spoken to, I had a FAB time and the trek is something I won’t forget in a big way – the scenery out there is just amazing as you will see. It was tough on some days but we all stayed strong, focused and plodded along.
Funnily enough, Gorak Shep to Base Camp was not as tough as I had anticipated. It was rather the days before that I personally found were pretty tougher, e.g. Cho La pass was something. After scrabbling up this, we then found ourselves going from rocks to a glacier and then was ‘skiing’ or rather falling down. It was my least favourite day.
Myself and my fellow trekkers (13 of us in total) all made Base Camp with our four excellent sherpas who constantly kept our spirits high even when we all took it in turns to fall ill. Our lead sherpa was Lakhpa and we were very fortunate to meet his Dad - Mr Tenzing Sherpa who himself accompanied Tenzing and Hillary on their ’53 summit. The low points for me was the altitude sickness which is too horrible to even describe; squat toilets (do I need to say more...?!). Thank you once again for all your kind words, your encouragement and pledges. At last tally, I have raised monies of £5.8k so well over my 5k target for the Eve Appeal. Obviously, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all you kind hearted bods so thank you again. More on The Eve Appeal: http://www.eveappeal.org.uk/RVEd0e5faa0b17442b9974e722feef5cd04,,.aspx
