Story
In October 2005 I am going to live in Minna, Nigeria for 2 years. I will be volunteering with VSO in the library of a Community Education Resource Centre.
VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) is an international development charity that works through volunteers. Instead of sending food, clothes or money VSO sends people to the develping world. Volunteers come from a range of professions and they share their skills and learn from their new colleagues. VSO volunteers live and work in the local community, earning the same wages as their local colleagues.
It costs approx £15,000 per year per volunteer. Each £5.25 you donate can keep a volunteer living and working in a developing country for one day...
Cork mini-marathon:
On Sep 18th Mam, Noirin & I are doing the Cork mini-marathon. The training has been intense for this 5 mile epic journey, but we are ready!
In ITB there are sponsorship cards in the Library and at Reception. Otherwise we are willing to relieve you of your cash in person whenever we run into you! You can also send cheques (made payable to VSO) or contact me for bank details - whiskerslane@hotmail.com Resources for Minna CERC library: On Sep 23rd I will collect money specifically for the library of Minna CERC. The collection will be in the foyer of C Block in ITB. It is estimated that it costs EUR03 to buy a book for a library in Africa and so I will be asking for EUR03 donations. Each time someone donates they will place a little book on our bookshelf and we will attempt to fill the shelf.
