WE DID IT!!!!!!

"Only a few months ago a couple called Lara and Patrick Ellwood decided to celebrate their 2^nd wedding in a rather unusual way.  On Thursday 4^th November they got up at 3am and met Ölüdeniz Mayor, Keramettin Yılmaz in the centre of Hisarönü, Fethiye. Together they did some warm up exercises and at 6am precisely they started a run that was to take them through the Göcek Tunnel and on to Dalaman Airport. They ran a total of 63k (40miles.) We ran, we struggled, we laughed and we hurt but we made the distance.  Not only that we were the FIRST people to be allowed to go through the Gocek Tunnel on foot complete with police escort.  The Dalaman mayor hijacked us just 10km from the end for a 30 minute press conference, but stiff and sore we continued on to the airport and finally and at last we made it.  7 hours running time and 8 and a half hours total time not record breaking but not a disgrace either.  Please give all you are able to our worthy causes.

1 week ago Patrick suffered a hamstring pull, 3 days off with ice packing, back to 3.5km followed by 7km the following day and then a day of rest, back to 16km and still holding up so yesterday 30/9/10 we are back to 25km and full training - hooray.

 

 

Having watched in complete and total amazement,

 

Eddie Izzard (Marathon Man), an ordinary and every day 40+ year old English couple, living in Turkey, have decided to set themselves a personal goal of completing a 60 KM Endurance Challenge

they were able to run only 300 metres (2 or 3 times a week).  Now they are attempting to run an unbelievable and very unforgiving 60 KM

!

They will do the challenge on their

 

2nd Wedding Anniversary (4th November 2010) and will run from Hisarönü (Fethiye) by road to Dalaman Airport, a total distance of 60 KM – which is nearly 1½ Marathons – i.e. a gruelling 37.5 miles! 

Two charities are benefiting from this event Roy Castle Cancer Research and Born Free to help raise money for the rehabilitation of Misha & Tom, 2 bottle nosed dolphins that were kept in a large swimming pool in our village as a tourist attraction.  Thanks to the help of Born Free and our local Dolphin Angels, the dolphins are now undergoing rehabilitation prior to their release in approx 12 months.  Misha & Tom are currently eating about 30kg of fish per day and are under medication, so require in the region of £150,000 to pay for their treatment. 

We are hoping to help towards the cost of this to enable these amazing creature to be released back into the wild where they belong.
