Story

Team Driving Miss Daisy

Helen Emery and Sophie Willingale are taking on the mighty Mongol Rally of 2007.  They will be setting off from Hyde Part on the 21st July in a K11 Nissan Micra called Daisy.

They plan to reach Mongolia after travelling via France, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hugary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia or Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkministan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia.

The trip should take around 4 weeks and involves driving an average 300 miles per day and camping most nights.  They will be driving through four malarial countries, lots of countries where rabies are endemic, avoiding the marmots who carry the bubonic plague in Mongolia and likewise deadly bugs in other countries, trying to not to offend people and driving and camping in temperatures ranging from 50 degrees centigrade (Turmenistan) to below freezing (Siberia).

They are raising money for charity (£1,000 must be donated through JustGiving by the launch date) and have set themselves an ambitious target of £5,000 to be shared amoungst MercyCorps and Sworde-Teppa.

Sophie and Helen are planning to go via Sworde-Teppa's head quarters in Tajikistan to drop off useful materials requested by the charity and to see the kind of work Sworde-Teppa does in Tajikistan.  Anybody who feels they would like to contribute to the box of materials can find the list of objects on our website.

Tajikistan is the poorest country in Central Asia and Sworde-Teppa make a huge difference to people living there.  We believe this charity is a very worthwhile cause.  All funds they receive go towards implementing their programs (they are run by volunteers).
