Mark
Bates, Andrew Franck-Steier & Steve Harper (+ driver Mike Bates) will be
attempting to conquer the 3 highest mountains in Great Britain - Ben Nevis in
Scotland (1344m), Scafell Pike in England (978m) & Snowdon in Wales (1085m)
- commonly known as the National 3 peaks.
The
challenge is to climb the mountains (26 miles of ascents & descents) and
drive 560 miles in less than 24 hours!
It
can be done and we will do it (despite what our wives say!!)
We
are practicing hard and training like Gods so, all we ask of you is that you
kindly sponsor us. All monies raised will go to "The Birmingham Children's
Hospital" - a charity very close to our hearts.
This
charity has been chosen by us as a way of thanking Birmingham children’s
hospital renal unit who 3 ½ years ago saved the life of Emily Bates (daughter
of Mark).
In October 2006, Emily (2 ½ years old) became very ill with a very rare
condition called hemolytic-uremic
syndrome (HUS). On arriving at Birmingham children’s hospital she was given a
40% chance of recovery. 4 weeks later and after 24 hours per day dialysis Emily
survived thanks to the fantastic Doctors and Nurses.
In November 2009, Emily (now 6 years old) was given the all clear by Dr Taylor
at the hospital.
We will never be able to thank Birmingham children’s hospital enough for what
they did for Emily and still do for other sick children, but a way of thanking
them we would like to go through a little pain ourselves and raise as much
money as we can (Target £5,000) by doing the 3 Peaks challenge.
