Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It was a few years ago now that I met Dave. I was hitchhiking around Australia and was stranded in the Aussie bush hundreds of km from the nearest town. My water bottle was nearly empty, the temperature was in the 40's and I had been standing by the side of a dusty old highway for 6 hours. I've never been much of a worrier, but believe me, I was beginning to worry. My options were fairly limited though, so I just had to hang in there and hope for the best.

You can imagine my relief when finally I saw a cloud of dust on the horizon and realised that an old pick-up truck was approaching. I stuck out my thumb, put on my best and most convincing sad face and hoped like mad that it wasn't a crazy axe murderer driving. The truck pulled up alongside and the guy who was driving it asked me where I was going. "Anywhere but here!" I said. "But preferably somewhere with water..." He was a guy in his thirties and he told me his name was Dave and he was a miner. He ended up giving me a six hour ride North which was as far as he was going. If it hadn't been for him, I could be dead now! Along the way we chatted loads and it turned out he'd done a lot of travelling too; he'd been trying to get to Mongolia the year before but he'd been diagnosed with prostate cancer. This put a stop to his travels and he'd had to return home. It was heartbreaking hearing about everything he was going through and how his life had been turned upside down.

Eventually, I got back from AustraIia and returned home. I am now saving money for my next trip - I have decided to make a trip to Mongolia for my mate Dave who sadly couldn't make it that far. I don't really know much about Northern Asia, and riding a motorbike on a 50,000km journey is a challenge in itself, but I am taking it a stage further by doing the trip on a 125cc bike. This is the sort of bike you might commute to work on or pop down to the shops on, but not a lot more than that. The terrain will include mountains, forests, glaciers, volcanos, lakes, deserts and heaps more. Temperatures will range from the 40's to the -40's so im expecting some cold nights in the tent and plenty of sun burn. This will be by far the worlds longest journey on a 125cc bike and I'm doing it in aid of the Prostate Cancer Charity for all the Daves of this world who are fighting this tragic disease.

This will be the travel itinery: http://www.zeemaps.com/pub?group=320092
