This summer, Colin, Hilda, Michelle and Abbie are stepping out of their comfort zone and have arranged a trip to the Dominican Republic. But this is no holiday, instead it is a chance to join others in building homes, supporting schools and hospitals and sharing our faith. It is an opportunity to give something back.

The has become a popular tourist destination bringing employment and key sources of foreign exchange, but still it remains one of the poorest countries in the Caribbean. There is a huge gap between the rich and poor, with the richest being the white descendants of Spanish settlers, who own most of the land, and the poorest comprising people of African descent.

Behind the hotels and beaches there is another story. Sosua, near Puerto Pata, is where sugar companies hire people to work the sugar cane fields and families have ended up living in the cane fields. Their houses are sticks and rubble that are the size of a walk-in closet. Their food is basic and meager. Living conditions are cramped, dirty and unsanitary but it is all that people can afford with incomes less than £1 a day.

You can make a difference. We are paying for the trip, with Gods provision. This means that 100% of money raised here goes directly to the local projects.
