The St Andrews Chariots and Historic Racing Snails are back yet again!

After last year's brilliant success the modern historians of St Andrews University are re-entering the Edinburgh Relay Marathon with fresh teams and challenges.

There are both new and returning runners to our two teams.  The Snails will be led by their new captain Ashley Barber, and anchored by the returning Ali Ansari, who ran a memorable glory-leg two years ago.  James Koranyi and Martyna Mirecka have also been welcomed to the fold, helping the Snails to achieve their objective of a four hours race.

The Chariots are joined by a triumvirate of women - Kate Ferris, Katherin Wilson and Sophie Mullins, all of whom are accomplished athletes.  It is believed that the Chariots might be able to enter and win the female race if their captain Chris Hill wears a wig.  He is awaiting a verdict from the IAAF.

Leaving the Chariots and the Snails are Steve Murdoch and Bernhard Struck, who have instead opted to run the whole twenty-six miles individually.  It will be a momentous tussle between these two relentless competitors.  While Struck has the pedigree (having run over ten full marathons), Murdoch has the recent form (having recently posted an impressive one hour and forty minutes in a half-marathon).

As always the money raised goes to DeafBlind Scotland, a charity organisation which greatly values the efforts of St Andrews University, the Modern History Dept. and all of its friends.  We would like to thank you all in advance for your generous contributions and support of this cause.

Best wishes,

The Chariots and Snails
