Story

Update Tuesday 13th Sept - On Sunday 11th September, Nigel and I finally made it back home to sunny Somerset.  We covered 9 countries in 5 days (England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and Italy) and spent approximately €600 in fuel and approximately €200 in toll road expenses....!!!

Our friend Neil, unfortunately never got to see our adventure in this world, he passed away on the eve of Friday 2nd Sept, the day before we left.  I am so glad that the mental and physical torture is now over for Neil and he can now rest in peace.  Both myself, Nigel and families attended Neils funeral yesterday.  Our hearts go out to his wife Josephine and children Finnian, Poppy and Rosie.  You know we'll always be there for you and together we will learn to look back, smile and laugh about the precious times we all shared with Neil, without getting upset!....xxx

Please keep the donations coming, I am keeping this page open for a while longer yet......Many thanks, Rob.G

This trip is dedicated to anyone and everyone who has been affected by cancer either indirectly or directly.  However, there are three very special people who we are dedicating this to specifically:

Neil Pepper - my dearest friend and friend of Nigels who is in a serious condition with cancer of the oesophagus.

Nick Welsh - dearest friend of Nigel who lost his life in April of last year to a rare form of cancer - Lyposarcoma

Bella Elliot - a very special little girl who lost her life to lukemia this summer, and whose Mum and sister (Caroline and Octavia) I met at our signing session in Mole Valley Farmers - Yeovil.  I was completely touched by what you told me, so much so, that this just had to go to Bella..xx

May god bless you all.....

Rob Girling and Nigel Parker....xx

Update - Friday 2nd Sept - Finally our time has come to set out on our mammouth journey. Tomorrow at 5.00am we will be leaving sunny Somerset heading for our first stop St.Omer in France.  I've just totted up the donations from all my lovely friends and colleaugues form work and we have just hit our total.....I think there is still some more to come so watch this space......!

Update - Tues 30th August - we have a slight technical hitch with the car.  We have a split CV boot and grease everywhere....!  With just 3 days to go, we could have done without this.  We are now working hard to see if someone can fix it for us.....!!!

Update Tues 30th August - Many thanks to all those who donated at Wickes on Sat 27th Aug and at Haynes International Motor Museum on Monday 29th Aug.  Donations of £200 and £300 were made respectively.  This concludes our signing sessions, although there are still more donations to come in.  We are going to completely smash the £5000 targer, which I must admit I thought we were going to stuggle to achieve. Nigel Parker - Owner of 'The Mobile Cocktail Company - Sherborne' and Rob Girling a Project Manger at AgustaWestland - Yeovil ask local businesses, residents and friends to help raise money for Cancer Research UK – as  they prepare to take on the world famous Motoscape Rally 2011 to Bologna.

Open for sponsorship now, Nigel and Rob’s engine will start on 3 September this year. The gruelling route will start in the UK and then take them through five additonal European countries....a total of six countries in six days.  Finishing in Bologna, Italy - with stops at the Nurburgring, Germany and the Ferrari Museum along the way, Nigel and Rob will then turn their banger around and drive back to Somerset through Italy and France......approximately 2000 miles as a round trip!

The concept of the Motoscape Rally is to buy a car for £250 or less, turn it into a wacky, eye-catching masterpiece and then drive it through some of the greatest roads in Europe – together with hundreds of other motorsport enthusiasts.

To make their car wacky, anyone making a donation automatically qualifies to sign their car in permanent pen!!  The first signature has already been made by Channel 5s presenter of 5th Gear, and 2001 and 2010 British Touring Car Champion - Jason Plato.  Jason is fully supporting Nigel and Rob with thier mamouth challenge.

Commenting on the challenge, Nigel and Rob said: “ We both have very close friends who have been affected by this awful disease, one of thise friends lost his life last year, the other is fighting for his as we speak.  This has been a wake up call for both of us, and has made us realise just how real the threat of cancer is and how vunerable we all are to this dreaded disease.  Current statistics show that 1 in every 3 people are affected by cancer at sometime in their lives. We both ask that everybody bears this fact in mind when contributing to this great cause.  The simple fact is that you, your children, or one of your dear friends may benefit from the donations you make today"

The money raised by Nigel and Rob will be co-ordinated through Cancer Research - the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Cancer Research has saved millions of lives with groundbreaking work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. People’s chances of surviving cancer have doubled in the last 40 years, and the charity has been at the heart of that progress. But more than one in three people will still get cancer at some point in their lives. The charity’s vital work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people survive.

Nigel and Rob would also like to note that all costs associated with the rally are being paid directly by themselves. This means that all donations made by you will go directly to Cancer Research UK….every single penny!

They will also be posting updates as they progress with the preparation stages and during the rally itself. To keep in touch with the team, become friends on Facebook or follow them on twitter.  Just search for Mojtio Motos on Google, and you will find them...!
