Bupa Great South Run 2012 · 28 October 2012 ·

Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

So here we go - my third Great South Run! I am determined to raise as much money for the Lewy Body Society as I can.

Slight update on what I'll be running in - I've swapped the Vibram's (in the picture on here) for something even more minimalist. They're called huaraches...google them, they're certainly minimal!

I'll keep this brief, as I'm sure most of you know this anyway. My nan has Dementia with Lewy Bodies. It's different to Alzheimers, in that people usually have mobility issues as well as memory problems that reflect symptoms common with Parkinsons. Therefore lots of people are misdiagnosed, as my nan was. It's now thought to be the second most common type of dementia, and yet I hadn't heard of it until my nan's diagnosis.

Dementia has been in the news a lot recently, and it is thought to be on the rise. Charities like the Lewy Body Society are so vital to help raise awareness, continue research and support those who have dementia or care for loved ones who do.

So, let's see if we can raise awareness and money for such a small but very important charity. More info on the charity is on this page.

Thanks in advance for all of your support. The race isn't until Oct but let's get the ball rolling! Donate whenever you can!
