The Mongol Rally · 16 July 2017

The UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, we've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Story

Here we go! On the 16th July 2017 Tom Dalrymple, Lochy de Klee and I will be setting off to Mongolia in a one litre car that would only scrape through its MOT in the UK.

This is the Mongol Rally. Over 10,000 miles from London, across Europe, through the ‘stans, into Mongolia, and then on to the finish line in Russia. We will face three deserts, five mountain ranges, and the Steppe of south east Europe and Asia.

Roads at times will be non-existent for hundreds of miles which means SatNav won't be beneficial. It's back to where it all began with a map and a compass. Petrol will also be restricted the further east we go, thereby testing our navigation skills to ensure we reach the next fuel stop. This is an endurance test that is both mentally and physically draining. Pictures and updates will be available through social media nearer departure in July.

My chosen charity, Combat Stress, supports veterans who suffer from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Depression and Anxiety. It’s important to me that those who serve our country, and suffer thereafter for our safety, get all the support and assistance that they require to cope with the harmful effects of psychological injuries.

Please support this worthwhile cause, and as you do so take comfort from the discomfort you will be putting us through as we endeavour to complete this gruelling challenge!
