Story

So I've completed my 3 challenges in aid of Macmillan, a charity I hold very close to my heart. They provide vital care to cancer sufferers and their families when they need it the most. Several people I love have faced the battle of cancer and sadly most were not able to stay with us in this world although thankfully some did fight it into remission.

My first challenge was a 14km run in Melbourne (City to Sea) which I completed in a respectable time of 87 minutes. This was the furthest I have ever run and I could barely stand the next day. Thankfully a week later I was back to 'normal' and was able to complete my next challenge, the 5km Color Run around Flemington Racecourse. This was a much shorter run but as many of you know I am petrified of horses and whilst they weren't there on the day I knew they had been and it made me nervous to just be there let alone run!

My final challenge was what I initially set out to do and was the biggest of the three. I cycled around 450km from Saigon (Vietnam) to Angkor Wat (Cambodia) on a mountain bike over some fantastic but unmaintained terrain. It was actually less physically challenging on my legs than I thought it would be however my shoulder suffered terribly and I spent quite a large portion of the last couple of days cycling one handed where the path allowed it. I did have to dismount at one point as the road was so rutted I couldn't control the handle bar with one hand and it was too painful to hold on with both.

Most of you will not be suprised to know that I completed this challenge in flip flops and with no specialist cycle equipment other than the helmet - there was no padding to made it a more comfortable ride for me!

It wasn't easy and a lot of training went into being able to complete this challenge. However it was a great experience for me and it would be fantastic if I managed to raise my goal of £2500 for Macmillan.
