Mont Blanc Summit · 1 August 2008

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

Loughborough Round Table – Mont Blanc Challenge 2008

Two keen but decidedly amateur climbers from Loughborough Round Table, James Tyler and Richard Urwin will attempt to climb Mont Blanc to raise money for Rainbows Children’s Hospice. At 15,774 feet it’s the highest mountain in Europe. This is the culmination of months of physical training designed to enable us to cope with the reduced oxygen levels at altitude.

After a week spent climbing smaller peaks to acclimatise, our summit bid will begin on the 22nd August. Hopefully we will leave the Cosmiques Hut on the Col du Midi at 2:00am and 6 hours later we should be on the summit. We will spend the rest of the day getting back down to Chamonix where I’m sure we will partake in a celebratory beer or two.

Children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions come to the hospice for specialist respite stays, symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care. Their families, too, are supported and helped by Rainbows on their difficult journey.

At Rainbows the emphasis is on enriching life and making each minute of each short life count.

Through various initiatives in 2008 Loughborough Round Table hope to raise in excess of £10,000 for Rainbows.

We hope that you will donate generously to this worthwhile cause and thank you in anticipation of your generosity.
