Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I ran the London Marathon in April for Save the Children as I have been associated with this Charity on and off for over 23 years and have been Chairman of the Petersfield Branch for the past 3 years. Please give as much as you can. Every penny will help.
I signed up to do this because I believe this Charity really does have some power to do good. 10 MILLION children die every year before their fifth birthday from conditions like pneumonia and diarrhoea when it's so easily preventable.
Mosquito nets, vaccinations and antibiotics are simple things that can save lives and that you and I are fortunate enough to take for granted, yet in Sierra Leone a course of treatment for a child suffering from malaria costs 8,000 leones, or £4.24. It would take the average Sierra Leonean 14 days to earn this amount. In UK terms, it's the equivalent of a British citizen paying £700 for treatment.
3.8 million children - one in three - are currently living in poverty in the UK, one of the highest rates in the industrialised world. This can have a profound impact on the child, their family and the rest of society. It's a shocking figure given the wealth of our nation and Save the Children is campaigning for these children's right to be heard.
My husband Keith also ran in the London Marathon - for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre. Please have a look at his justgiving page, http://www.justgiving.com/keithbudge but only after you have donated to mine! We added to the pain by sponsoring each other - £500 each. Keith was my training partner and we kept each other going through the gruelling training and were spurred on by knowing that we also had strong support from so many of you.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Save the Children will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! Thank you so much and if you would like to find out more about the charity then please take a look at www.savethechildren.org.uk
Many thanks for your support.
