Story
Well - We made it!
5.30am on Saturday 11th July we gathered at Horton-in-Ribblesdale and by 6.00am we were underway. The sun was shining, everyone was full of high spirits ready for the challenge that lay ahead and by 7.15am we were all at the top of Pen-y-Ghent.
One down and two to go, then came the trek across the peat bogs, Sarah decided to test the depth of them but escaped at calf level!! By around 9.30am we were at Ribblehead Viaduct, greeted by our support team and some very welcome bacon sandwiches. Socks were changed, feet were tended to, blisters patched up and it was onwards and upwards to the top of Whernside, a quick break at the trig point and then down again.
Once again our dedicated support team Karen, Gerald, Sean and Andrea were waiting for us to administer more food and first aid to some of the best blisters ever seen!! A bit of motivational speaking "Come on, don't be a Wus, there's only one hill left!!" and everyone was off again for the challenge of Inglebourgh and those horrible steps!!
The trig point was reached, hugged and in some cases there was rumours of kissing it and then away back down to Horton. Spured on by the signs to Horton and the ever decreasing mileage on them - all though there is some debate that the one saying 1.5 miles is a downright lie - everyone made it back to the cafe and clocked in in under 12 hours - mission accomplished!!
A huge thank you to everyone that has sponsored us, to our support team Karen, Gerald, Andrea, Sean and to Kevin for providing food for us all but most of all a massive thank you to our team of walkers without whom we couldn't have acheived this,
Hopefully we have raised over our target of £2000 for Saint Michaels Hospice and we'll all be back agian next year!!
We are raising money for Saint Micheals Hospice in Harrogate who provide an invaluable service to patients and their families within the Harrogate and Wetherby area.
This is how your sponsorship can help -
£140 will ensure that a patient at the Hospice is able to benefit from an hours input from each member of the hospice team including doctors, nurses, counsellors and social workers.
£240 means that those needing care from the Hospice are able to recieve home visits from the specialist team of doctors and nurses, meaning they can stay at home for as long as possible.
£350 will provide help for a child at Saint Micheals open access bereavement service by supporting them through their grief.
£500 will help improve the quality of life of suffers of lymphoedema (an incurable painful swelling of the limbs) by providing 10 support sessions at the Hospice.
£1600 will ensure that one patient and their carer will benefit from a weeks respite care at the Hospice.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Saint Michael's Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
