** UPDATE**
We made it! Blessed with good weather conditions and a fantastic support crew, the 5 shoal members swam from the Black Isle to Nairn Golf club in just over 5 hours.
--------------------------
On 13th September 2009, we are swimming across the Moray Firth, from Navity Farm, Cromarty on the Black Isle to Nairn. If we swim straight, this will measure approximately 7 miles and we hope it will take us between 4-6 hours. On the day, we will be supported by 3 safety boats, kindly provided by Gordonstoun School.
For some of the team, this has been a long term goal, and for others a moment of madness. Either way, we all have a good reason for doing it. We will be raising funds for the Maggie's Highlands Cancer Care Centre at Raigmore in Inverness. The team here offer an immense amount of support and care for those with cancer, to help people live with, through and beyond the disease. We would be grateful for your support.
Training has consisted of many hours in the pool this year as well as sea swims over the summer months (not so easy for those living in London & Parma, Italy!). We think we're ready for any challenges that the North Sea might throw at us, from tricky tides & currents, to choppy water and Bottlenose dolphins (the Moray Firth is home to the largest population
in the North Sea, in excess of 140). We have opted to wear wetsuits rather the traditional goose fat and speedos. All things considered the day at the very least should be a lively occasion.
Thank you all so much for your generous support.
