Hello friends
Last year we lost a wonderful woman called Lucy Coombs to Cancer; Melanoma more specifically. She was fantastic, a real fighter, sportswoman and utterly hilarious and beautiful. While she was ill she found an organisation called Cancerbackup very helpful and they have organised a 10K run this year that is happening in London on the 15th of June.
I have been looking for something to do in memory of Lu and this appeared on my computer screen at the same time that I had Alice on the phone telling me about the charity. Some might say 'fate'. Others might say 'bloody hell that's, like, only about 7 weeks away...are you sure? I mean seriously...when was the last time you ran more than ten metres mog? seriously...etc etc'.
But what better reason to get up every morning and slog around the streets of south east london? Its a very good cause in memory of a wonderful person who should still be here and would have run this race with me.
I shant be on my own though as Steve has haplessly agreed to accompany me so this is his fundraising page too. I literally called him up about ten minutes ago and I get the impression he may have just said yes to shut me up because his boss sits next to him but I know that because it's for Lucy he will be totally up for it...!
So dig deep my friends. I know the marathon has probably exhausted your generosity somewhat but every penny counts so whatever you can manage. I've put £500 as a target but if we can get past that I would love you all forever all night long...or something.
I'd better get training hadn't I? So should Steve.
